Trading without handing over your keys

The XRP Ledger has a decentralised exchange built into the protocol itself. You trade from your own account — no deposit, no withdrawal, no counterparty holding your funds.

Order book and AMM, side by side

The XRPL matches your trade against both the classic order book and automated market maker pools, taking whichever path gives the better price.

Trust lines come first

Before you can hold a token you must open a trust line to its issuer. That's you saying 'I accept up to this much of this issuer's token'. It costs a small XRP reserve and can be closed later.

What to check before a trade

Confirm the issuer address, not just the ticker. Anyone can issue a token called USD or even copy a famous name — the issuer address is the only real identity.

  • Match the issuer address against the project's official site.
  • Check pool depth: thin books mean brutal slippage.
  • Start with a small test transaction.

DEXs and trading front-ends

The order book and AMM live in the protocol itself — these are the interfaces people use to reach them. Your keys never leave your wallet.
